The deal includes an invite to major league spring training, Tomlin opted out of his minor-league deal with the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday. Tomlin appeared in five games with the Brewers this spring allowing eight earned runs in 15 innings. Prior to that, he had spent his entire career with the Cleveland Indians where he had appeared in 183 games while making 144 starts. He produced a 4.77 ERA (4.68 FIP) in 898 2/3 career innings. Tomlin struggled greatly in 2018 with the Indians posting a 6.14 ERA (FIP 7.20!) He allowed 25 home runs in 70 1/3 innings. It remains to be seen what the plan is for Tomlin going forward. The Braves are dealing with a number of nagging injuries in the rotation and the bullpen but have several young arms that appear to be capable to filling the void.
