Following their end-of-season collapse, Dave Nonis told TSN Radio 1050 that hes looking to get the Leafs back to where they were two seasons ago when the team broke their seven-year playoff drought. Shareef Miller Eagles Jersey . The GM said the additions of Leo Komarov, Stephane Robidas and Roman Polak were made with the expectation that the veterans would set an on-ice example of the way the Leafs want their top players to compete. “Those players can generate a lot of emotion and they can bring players into the fight with them, and thats what we had two years ago and we need to get it back this year,” Nonis said. Despite the addition of two defencemen, Nonis said he wasnt overly concerned about his back-ends overall talent level, but felt like their fit as a group of six wasnt ideal. “We wanted to change the way we played the game. With Robidas and Roman, youre talking about guys who play very very hard and the compete-level of those guys is a big part of their game and we think itll rub off with the rest of our group.” Besides the players he did sign and acquire, Nonis also weighed in on the loss of centre Dave Bolland, and the Josh Gorges situation, in which the veteran blueliner accepted a deal to the Sabres after vetoing a trade that would have sent him to Toronto. “We did put a significant offer on the table for him,” Nonis said of the Bolland negotiations. “We felt it was reflective of his value to us, where he should be paid and there was another team that felt like he should be paid more.” On Gorges: “I may find that odd, but thats his choice and hes earned that right.” To round out his roster, Nonis mentioned he is still in the market for forward depth, pointing out the Leafs are looking to put an emphasis on increasing the reliance on their fourth line. “Your third and fourth lines have to contribute,” Nonis said, adding that he recognizes the leagues top teams use their fourth line for between eight and 12 minutes a game in order to lighten the load on top-end players and prevent them from wearing down. In addition to possible future free agent additions, Nonis speculated Josh Leivo, David Broll and possibly Sam Carrick could challenge for a roster spots up front next season, while on the back-end, Petter Granberg and Stuart Percy could work their way into the mix. Addressing the rumours surrounding back-up goaltender James Reimer, Nonis said he is fielding offers for the 26-year-old, but if a deal cant be reached expects him to be ready for the start of camp. “If theres a deal that makes sense for us to move James Reimer, and makes us better and gives us assets that are reflective of what he is, which is a goaltender who has been a no. 1, who could challenge for a no. 1 here, then youll look to do it,” Nonis said. “But its difficult finding quality goaltenders. We think he is one and I would expect if there isnt a deal that makes sense that he would come to camp in the best shape that he could possibly be in with the mindset to play in as many games as he can.” Nonis: Leafs looking to increase compete-level DeSean Jackson Youth Jersey . After a tight first half, the Croatians took command in Reykjavik after Skulason was dismissed for a professional foul in the 51st minute, but couldnt find a way past Iceland goalkeeper Hannes Halldorsson and his packed defence. The Leafs won for the second time in three games by downing lowly Buffalo on Tuesday. Jonathan Bernier only needed to stop 10 shots to post a shutout against the Sabres, while Tyler Bozak and Phil Kessel each had a goal and an assist en route to a 4-0 home win. The 10 shots allowed set a Maple Leafs record for fewest shots yielded in a game. James van Riemsdyk and Jake Gardiner also scored and Morgan Rielly supplied two helpers for the Maple Leafs, who will try to win consecutive games tonight for the second time this season. Our expectation is to carry this on to the next one, Toronto head coach Randy Carlyle said of the win. Tonight, everything fell our way and well take it because we were in drastic need of a performance at home. While the Leafs have struggled to a 2-4-0 record at home, they are unbeaten in regulation on the road, going 2-0-1 as the guest. Columbus has been handed three straight regulation setbacks and lost each of its last two outings by 5-2 margins. The Blue Jackets are 4-5-0 this season, and the slow start has more than a little to with the clubs inability to stay healthy. The Blue Jackets have been beset by injuries in the first month of the season, and two more names were added to the list on Wednesday as defenseman James Wisniewski and center Mark Letestu were both placed on injured reserve. Wisniewski is expected to be sidelined for 1-to-2 weeks with a broken finger he suffered in Tuesdays game against Ottawa. Letestu could be out for a month with a groin injury he sustained against the Senators. Goaltender Serggei Bobrovsky is also out with a broken finger, while forwards Artem Anisimov (head), Matt Calvert (upper body) and Nick Foligno (stinger) have also been hurt since last weekend. Brian Dawkins Eagles Jersey. Brandon Dubinsky, Nathan Horton and Boone Jenner have yet to play this season because of injuries. Foligno, however, could play tonight after missing Tuesdays loss to Ottawa. After losing 5-2 in Los Angeles on Sunday, Columbus returned home and fell to the Senators by the same margin. The score was tied at 2-2 after 40 minutes, but Ottawa scored three unanswered goals in the third to notch the victory. We just ran out of gas, Blue Jackets forward Adam Cracknell said. We lost some guys and made some mistakes. David Savard and Cam Atkinson each netted goals in the loss, while Curtis McElhinney made 29 saves in place of an injured Bobrovsky. McElhinney expects to start again tonight with Anton Forsberg serving as the backup. Columbus is 2-2-0 at home this season and has two wins in five all-time meetings with Toronto at Nationwide Arena. The Blue Jackets have taken three in a row and four of the past five meetings overall.
