CINCINNATI -- The bottom two teams in the NL Central resumed the season with a game that came down to the last pitch. The last-place Reds got the better of it.Adam Duvall and Tucker Barnhart doubled home runs in the sixth inning Friday night, rallying Cincinnati to a 5-4 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers that snapped a three-game losing streak. Were 1-0 in the second half, Barnhart said.Of course, they opened the season with a sweep of Philadelphia, only to fall apart and get on pace to lose more than 100 games. But for one night, they felt rejuvenated.Duvalls double off Matt Garza (1-3) cut Milwaukees lead to 3-2, the ball hitting the top of the wall in left. Barnharts two-run double just inside the third base line off Carlos Torres gave Cincinnati its first lead. Jay Bruce added an RBI double in the seventh.Anthony DeSclafani (4-0) allowed six hits in six innings, including Scooter Gennetts homer. DeSclafani leads the Reds staff with six quality starts in seven appearances since he recovered from a strained oblique.Tony Cingrani gave up pinch-hitter Hernan Perezs RBI single in the ninth, and then loaded the bases with one out. The left-hander got Gennett to swing at a high, full-count fastball and foul out.It was probably ball four, but I got a borderline pitch there, Gennett said. I just got under it a little bit.Manager Bryan Price decided to bring in Ross Ohlendorf. The right-hander got Ryan Braun to pop up, earning his second save in four chances.I just thought, 26 pitches (by Cingrani) and it wasnt coming easy, and I wouldve hated for him to get the loss in a situation where he didnt have his best stuff, Price said. We had a fresh arm ready. The Brewers have lost three straight and 10 of 14.Billy Hamilton had a pair of singles, stole a base, and scored twice. He made it home from second on a fielders choice for Cincinnatis first run in the fourth inning. The speed component is beginning to show itself on the offensive side, not just in stolen bases, Price said. Im really happy with the improvement in his game this year.A grounder that deflected off first base helped the Brewers go up 2-1 in the fifth. Ramon Flores singled and advanced on Garzas sacrifice. Jonathan Villar hit a slow grounder down the line that Joey Votto failed to charge, allowing the ball hit first base and skip away for an RBI single.NICE DBruce jumped to get Chris Carters fly to the top of the wall in the fourth. The Brewers Jonathan Villar made a sliding stop on Vottos grounder to the hold at shortstop and threw him out from his knees in the bottom of the inning.HO HO HOThe Brewers worked out to Christmas carols pregame as the Cincinnati Pops rehearsed. It provided the soundtrack for postgame fireworks as part of a Christmas in July promotion.BREWERS MOVERight-hander Corey Knebel was recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs and pitched the eighth. He opened the season on the DL with a strained left oblique and went 0-1 with an 8.31 ERA in five games last month before being sent down.TRAINERS ROOMBrewers: OF Domingo Santana -- on the DL with a sore right elbow -- worked out before the game. He could start a rehab assignment within a week. ... LHP Chris Capuano got an injection in his sore left elbow and isnt with the team on the road trip. Hes on the 60-day DL.Reds: RHP Homer Bailey threw 67 pitches in four innings of a rehab start for Triple-A Louisville on Friday, allowing three hits and one run. Hes scheduled to pitch in the minors again in five days. Bailey is recovering from Tommy John surgery 14 months ago. ... 2B Brandon Phillips left in the seventh inning with a strained right calf.UP NEXTBrewers: RHP Jimmy Nelson (5-7, 3.62) is 0-4 with a 5.14 ERA in his last seven starts. Hes 2-2 career against the Reds with a 5.88 ERA in seven starts and two relief appearances.Reds: LHP John Lamb (1-6, 5.29) has lost his last two starts, giving up 11 earned runs in 9 1/3 innings. The 29-year-old Baines has established himself as one of the top attacking full backs in the country and was the subject of two bids from United during the last off-season. Everton manager Roberto Martinez says that keeping Baines at the club is a "massive boost and exciting for the future" because he brings "maturity and football knowledge in a very specialized position on the pitch" and an "infectious and positive influence to the rest of the squad. Vapormax Run Utility Canada . Dallas hasnt ruled out the star quarterback for Sunday nights game against Philadelphia, but all signs point to Romos back injury pushing Kyle Orton into the starting role after two years of limited play as the backup. Surely Ortons name isnt the first that comes to mind for fans wanting a change after years of damaging interceptions, fumbles or, most infamously, the field goal flub when Romo dropped the snap on a kick that could have won his first playoff game in 2006.SAN DIEGO -- Four city council members are offering San Diego Chargers owner Dean Spanos a lease of $1 a year for 99 years for the Qualcomm Stadium site as a starting point for negotiations for a new stadium. The offer will be in a letter due to be sent to Spanos on Tuesday, with copies going to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and the 31 other NFL owners. It comes six weeks after a Chargers-written ballot measure asking for $1.15 billion in increased hotel taxes for a new downtown stadium was soundly defeated, the latest twist in the teams long, bitter attempt to replace aging Qualcomm Stadium in Mission Valley. The Chargers have until Jan. 15 to exercise an option to move to Los Angeles and join the Rams in a stadium in Inglewood scheduled to open in 2019.Councilman Scott Sherman, whose district includes Qualcomm Stadium, shared a copy of the letter with The Associated Press on Monday evening. The hour is late, and the time to find a stadium solution is getting dangerously short, the letter started. The last two paragraphs read: Before leaving 60 years of tradition and loyal fans, lets give one last concerted effort to come to the table and hammer this out face to face, working together toward a common goal of keeping the NFL in Americas Finest City. If we fail to come to an agreement, at least we will know that nothing was left untested and we can part ways knowing that we gave it our all.We ask that the Chargers give San Diego fans another chance. It will be signed by Sherman, Chris Cate, new council president Myrtle Cole and Lorie Zapf.Sherman and Cate opposed Measure C but want the Chargers to stay in San Diego, preferably in Mission Valley. They hope the letter can get the Chargers to the negotiating table for the first time in 1 1/2 years. The Chargers rejected a city-county plan for a new stadium at the Qualcomm site in 2015, and then voters rejected Measure C.So heres another starting point, and lets not give up on 60 years of tradition and fan loyalty, Sherman told the AP.The Chargers didnt immediately respond to a request for comment. The tricky part, of course, is coming up with a plan to pay for a new stadium.Sherman and Cate said theyd like to see the Chargers, NFL and a development partner build a stadium. Both council members said they hoped it could get done with no public money. At the end of the dayy, 166 acres in the geographic center of the eighth-largest city in the country is the perfect spot to develop, Sherman said.dddddddddddd Im convinced we could get over 50 percent (of a vote) with that. This is all just a starting point to start the discussion. The way we laid it out with the lease, its a large incentive to come to the table. In 2004, the Chargers failed in their attempt to get the city to give them a large chunk of the Qualcomm property in exchange for privately developing a stadium. The cheap lease deal is as close as getting the land given to you as possible, Sherman said. The Chargers walked away from talks with the city and county in June 2015 and focused on a plan to build a stadium in a Los Angeles suburb with the rival Oakland Raiders. That plan was defeated by NFL owners in January in favor of the Rams Inglewood plan, but the Chargers were given the option of moving to L.A. If they decide to move, theyll have to make a deal with either the Coliseum or the 27,000-seat StubHub! Center as a temporary home.Mayor Kevin Faulconer has had private talks with Spanos and a team representative in recent weeks. Details of those talks werent made public. We need to hear from the organization what their concerns are, and if theyre even open to having a discussion for Mission Valley, Cate told the AP. These are things we need to hear from them about. The fans need to hear from them, too. What does success look like to them? We havent been able to have a discussion as a council with them. This lets them know were willing to have that conversation.Sherman said he hopes people with the NFL note that for the first time, four sitting council members say this is something we can support and move forward from here, something thats never happened before. Is this a final Hail Mary from City Hall?I think were going to continue to push as long as they havent called U-Haul and havent t moved the trucks up, Cate said. Were going to continue to have proactive outreach to the team to see if we can open dialogue.
