NEW YORK -- Jacob deGrom overpowered the first eight Miami hitters, and all that stood between him and sole possession of a major league record was the opposing pitcher. Cheap Air Max 90 2019 . Line drive, base hit. "I had no idea," Marlins starter Jarred Cosart said. "Any time you can keep the other pitcher out of the history books, its a good thing." By striking out eight in a row to begin the game, deGrom matched a big league mark Monday night before the Marlins finally started making contact and rallied late for a 6-5 victory over the New York Mets. Adeiny Hechavarria hit a two-run single and Jeff Mathis put the Marlins ahead with an RBI single that capped a three-run eighth inning. But with both teams under .500 and only two weeks left in the season, it was deGrom who provided some early and unexpected excitement. On a night when New Yorks goofy mascot, Mr. Met, wore a shaggy wig to mimic deGroms long hair, the rookie finished with a career-best 13 strikeouts in seven innings. He whiffed eight consecutive Marlins at the start, tying a record set by Jim Deshaies of the Houston Astros against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sept. 23, 1986. Deshaies and deGrom are the only pitchers to accomplish the feat since 1900. "That felt good. I had a good fastball early on," deGrom said. "My two-seamer was moving a lot." Now a Chicago Cubs broadcaster, Deshaies had fun noting the occasion on Twitter: "Congratulations to Jacob Degrom for tying one of the most hallowed records in all of sport," he posted. A top contender for NL Rookie of the Year, deGrom equaled Deshaies mark by freezing Mathis with a 95 mph fastball. The right-hander then gave up a sharp single to Cosart on a 1-0 pitch and received a warm ovation from the Citi Field crowd of 23,027. "I threw ball one so I thought maybe he would take the next one," deGrom said. "I was trying to go outside corner and I just left it over the middle." Despite squandering a two-run lead, deGrom was in line to win before Miami scored three in the eighth against New Yorks best relievers. Jeurys Familia (2-5) gave up four straight hits, and Mathis delivered a two-out single off closer Jenrry Mejia. "We got a couple soft hits but at the right time. Sometimes you need those," Miami manager Mike Redmond said. "Had some great at-bats and that was a great team win." With the bases loaded, Sam Dyson (3-1) threw a called third strike past Dilson Herrera to end the seventh. Steve Cishek closed for his 36th save in 40 chances. Miami finally solved deGrom in the seventh, when Hechavarria doubled and ex-Met Jordany Valdespin looped a two-run single that tied it 2-all. Pinch-hitter Reed Johnson added a sacrifice fly. Dating back to Aug. 23, deGrom had gone 28 innings without allowing an earned run. Casey McGehees error at third base helped the Mets take a 5-3 lead with three unearned runs in the bottom half. Daniel Murphy hit an RBI single, Travis dArnaud broke his bat on a go-ahead double and reliever A.J. Ramos walked three consecutive batters to force in a run. Wilmer Flores hit a two-run double off Cosart in the first. TRAINERS ROOM Marlins: Giancarlo Stanton, seriously injured last Thursday when he was struck in the face by a pitch, has some appointments with doctors on Tuesday. After that, Redmond said, he should know more about whether its even possible the slugger could return this season. Teammates hung Stantons jersey in the Miami dugout. ... Valdespin became the fourth player to start in right field for Miami in four games since Stanton was hurt. Mets: RHP Vic Black was examined by a doctor and has a mild rotator cuff strain, general manager Sandy Alderson said. The reliever will rest for five or six days before he tries to throw again. Its conceivable Black wont pitch again this season, Alderson said, but the Mets are not shutting him down just yet. ... LF Matt den Dekker made his first start since he was hit by a pitch on his left hand last Tuesday. BOUNCING BACK Miami had its second straight late comeback win following a four-game skid and beat the Mets for only the second time in the last nine meetings. NICE ADDITION Acquired from Houston at the July 31 trade deadline, Cosart is 4-1 with a 1.52 ERA in his past seven starts. UP NEXT Marlins RHP Nathan Eovaldi (6-11, 4.29 ERA) starts the middle game of the series Tuesday night against Bartolo Colon (13-12, 4.14), who was ejected from his most recent outing, a 6-2 loss to Washington last Thursday. Cheap Air Max 90 Essential China . The 29-year-old Mills started three games for Oakland this season, posting a 1-1 record with a 4.41 earned-run average. He opened the season appearing in 14 games and making 12 starts for the Milwaukee Brewers triple-A affiliate in Nashville, posting a 4-2 record with a 1. Cheap Air Max 90 Womens . The 10-year deal the league and players agreed to that ended the 2011 lockout gave either side the right to opt out after six years. With the league projecting financial growth, there has been speculation that players will take that option in three years, especially since a new national TV contract will be in place by then. http://www.outletairmax90cheap.com/outlet-air-max-90-gray-black-cheap.html . Trailing by a goal after 20 minutes of play, Joe Pavelski responded with three goals and an assist as the Sharks snapped a two-game losing skid with a 5-2 victory over the struggling Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday.INDIANAPOLIS -- Adam Vinatieri has warmed up to those chilly New England receptions. Sometimes, he hears cheers. Sometimes, he hears boos. Its all part of life as an ex-Pat in one of footballs fiercest rivalries -- even for a kicker who signed with the Colts eight years ago. "Its the (Red) Sox-Yankees, if you will, that kind of thing where I think both teams respect each other and know what comes to the table," Vinatieri said. The story lines in this annual series have traditionally started and ended with the quarterbacks -- Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and now Andrew Luck. But the ties run so much deeper, especially given Indianapolis ever-expanding list of former Patriots. In addition to Vinatieri, theres cornerback Darius Butler, who may replace injured starter Greg Toler in Saturday nights playoff game, with the winner advancing to the AFC championship game. Butler was New Englands second-round pick in 2009, and since joining the Colts in September 2012, hes intercepted eight passes and returned three for scores. "Youve always got something to prove," said Butler, who was cut by the Patriots at the end of training camp in 2011. "And its always special when youre facing a former team." Safety Sergio Brown spent two seasons with New England (12-4) before landing with Indy last season, too. If LaRon Landry doesnt clear the concussion protocol before kickoff, the special teams standout could be starting, too. And on Monday, the Colts added another New England fan favourite -- receiver Deion Branch, the Super Bowl MVP in the Patriots last title run. Saturday will be his first trip to New Englands visiting locker room, and Branch isnt entirely sure about how hell be treated by the fans who warmly embraced him for so many years. "I think so far its been a little 75-25 (positive)," Branch said, based on what hes heard about the fans reaction to signing with Indy (12-5). "Most everybody understands and they respect that, but then you have those die-hard fans. Air Max 90 Ultra SE Black White. " Massachusetts native Matt Hasselbeck is one of three Colts players -- along with left tackle Anthony Castonzo and right tackle Gosder Cherilus -- who played at Boston College, and he knows enough about the city and its fans to know the boos are nothing personal. "Its probably a sign of respect, deep down," said Hasselbeck, who was a New England ball boy when his father, Don, played for the Patriots. "I think Adam is one of the all-time sports icons in that area, I know he was to me when I was in college there. Those kicks, especially in the snow, were special moments." Vinatieris history didnt matter to some fans when he returned to Foxborough for the first time in November 2006. While former teammates and team owner Robert Kraft traded handshakes with Vinatieri, he heard boos along with the cheers. It probably wont be much different Saturday night. New Englands ties to Indy are limited. Coach Bill Belichick started his NFL coaching career with the Colts back in 1975 when the team was still in Baltimore, and offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia worked on the Colts staff in 1989 and 1990. The only former Colt on New Englands roster is receiver Austin Collie. "I look forward to seeing guys that Ive built relationships with there," Collie said. "But to me its just - weve got to win. Its all about advancing. Thats what my mindset is." The Colts concur. "Ive been over on that sideline for a lot of years, too, and I know what they bring to the table. Theyll have their team ready to play. The fans will be loud and crazy. Its playoff football," Vinatieri said. "Thats what its supposed to be like." Notes: Receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey (hamstring) was the only Colts player who did not practice Thursday. Coach Chuck Pagano said he expected everybody except Heyward-Bey to play Saturday night, though Landry still has to be cleared because of his concussion. ' ' '
