Throughout the Tour de France, Australian professional cyclist Richie Porte will be checking in. Here is his latest entry, as told to ESPN contributor Rupert Guinness:Stage 9: Viola DAron to Andorra Arcalis - 184.5km By Richie PorteWeather was a massive talking point lot after the final Pyrenees stage of the Tour de France on Sunday. It was not hard to understand why. Lets face it. That was some pretty extreme weather to race in -- or rather, a pretty extreme change of weather to race in.It says something for cycling that the race continues in that weather. It also says something for the fans who remained to watch the race. Although, I reckon they were rewarded with some pretty good racing, from Dutchman Tom Dumoulin winning the stage like he did in a solo attack, to the race that unfolded between us for the overall classification, to those who fought to finish in conditions that punished big time.Riders handle conditions in different ways. You get riders who like the heat, or race well in the wet and cold; or even some who adapt or dont to when the weather suddenly shifts like it did in Sundays ninth stage that took us 184.5km from Viola DAron in Spain to Andorra Arcalis over a route that included five major mountains, the last to the finish.I was okay with the conditions that struck. Ive raced and trained in them before several times and found it was not too bad. To be honest, you just get on with it.As for how the stage unfolded, I was very happy with it. I felt great and enjoyed attacking there on the last climb. It gives me confidence going forward into the Tour to know that on what I always thought would be one of the hardest stages that I can climb with the big favourites in this years Tour. Okay, I didnt get time off Chris Froome (Sky) or Nairo Quintana (Movistar), but taking the front foot and finishing as I did showed that I should be ready to produce my best in the mountains to come -- from Mont Ventoux on Thursday to the Alps.It was also handy to gain some time on some other riders and move up a few places overall. As Ive said all week since losing time to a flat on stage two, the thinking behind my moves is not rocket science. I need to get time back, and Im determined to give it a shake, even if I know its going to be hard to get away as I would like to. Non one is going to let me go just like that. Still, with the first racing block in this Tour done, theres still much more in it to unfold. But I know I am not alone in saying that Im glad the rest day has arrived. The first nine days of this Tour have been hard days - and long days with 1766.5 kilometres now covered. However, Im good physically and mentally. And after a days rest I should even better for it. Mike Bercovici College Jersey . Parker had 26 points and eight assists and San Antonio beat Toronto 112-99 Monday night. "We won that game because of Tony Parkers aggressiveness," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. "His juice; his aggression all night long. Cheap Arizona State Gear . The Americans, skipped by John Shuster, seized the advantage in the eighth end by scoring five points for a 7-3 lead. The Czechs pulled two back in the ninth, but Shusters team of third Jeff Isaacson, second Jared Zezel and lead John Landsteiner ended with another point to secure the last Olympic berth on offer. James Harden College Jersey . Andrew Luck lost his favourite target and the Indianapolis locker room lost one of its most revered leaders when Reggie Wayne was diagnosed Monday with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee that will cost him the rest of the season. Throwback Arizona State Jerseys . -- The boos poured down on Tom Brady and the New England Patriots at the end of a horrible first half. CINCINNATI -- The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed a National-League leading 26 players on the disabled list this season. Slowly but surely, they are getting healthy.Good news abounded on Friday. Right-handed starter Bud Norris and left-handed reliever Adam Liberatore were reinstated from the DL and ace Clayton Kershaw will take a significant step forward in his rehab from a herniated disk on Saturday when he throws 20-25 pitches off the mound inside Great American Ball Park.Im always cautiously optimistic, manager Dave Roberts said on Friday. With all the things weve incurred, we still find a way.The news wasnt as good on the field Friday as Norris allowed six earned runs in 3 2/3 innings in his return in a 9-2 loss to Cincinnati. The Dodgers had won nine straight against the Reds. Theyll be looking to start another streak when Brett Anderson takes the mound Saturday hoping to improve on his season debut on Sunday when he allowed five runs and five hits in one inning of an 11-3 loss to the Pirates.Anderson will make his third career start against Cincinnati. In his two prior starts against the Reds, Anderson went 2-0 with a 2.13 ERA with just three earned runs given up in 12 2/3 innings. Cincinnati batted .224 against him in those outings. The Reds will counter with left-hander Brandon Finnegan who will make his 25th appearance and start of the season on Saturday. Hell face the Dodgers for the second time in his career.ddddddddddddFinnegans last start at Dodger Stadium was a memorable one.On May 23, Finnegan allowed one run and five hits through eight innings of a 1-0 loss. It was the first complete game by a Reds left-hander since Lance Davis beat the Tigers on July 16, 2001, at Cinergy Field.Finnegan, who was acquired last July in the trade which sent Johnny Cueto to the Kansas City Royals, has endured some hard luck this season. He was matched up against Kershaw in the aforementioned start in May. He took a no-hitter into the seventh inning on April 11 only to have it broken up with two outs then eventually lost the game. Finnegan also was the Reds starter on April 21 when Jake Arrieta no-hit them at Great American Ball Park.Fortunes for Cincinnati have turned around. Since the All-Star break, the Reds are 20-12 and have won eight of 10 series. They own the second-best record in the major leagues since the break.I understand that it was a tough first half and now its exciting to come to the ballpark knowing you have a chance to win, said Reds manager Bryan Price. Nobody wants to be at the bottom (off the standings). The overriding feeling in the first half, besides getting the pitching together, was were just a couple of pieces short. This is the way we envisioned the second half going.
