Rhys Hoskins gave the Phillies all the runs Zach Eflin needed to stay perfect in June.

Eflin continued to shine for Philadelphia with just four hits allowed over seven shutout innings Jonah Williams Jersey , and Hoskins hit a three-run homer to help the Phillies beat the New York Yankees 3-0 on Wednesday night.

Eflin, acquired in the 2014 trade that sent fan favorite and former NL MVP Jimmy Rollins to the Los Angeles Dodgers, won his fifth straight start and kept the surprising Phillies in the thick of the NL East race.

”You can see why they’re kind of excited about him,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. ”I thought he threw the ball really well and really was in command. He kind of shut us down. We were pretty quiet. Even when we’re not scoring runs, we’re mounting things. We really didn’t mount that much against him.”

Eflin (6-2) became the first Phillies pitcher to win five starts in a month (he had a 1.76 ERA in June) since Cole Hamels went 5-0 in May 2012. Eflin has turned into a stopper of sorts for Philly: He won his fourth game this month following a Phillies loss. Eflin walked two, struck out six and helped the Phillies avoid a three-game sweep before beginning a key four-game series against the division rival Washington Nationals. The Phillies trail the Atlanta Braves by 2 1/2 games, and the Nationals are 3 1/2 back.

”Being able to be healthy and to focus on pitching alone is probably the biggest thing,” Eflin said. ”Going in with a great game plan and two catchers who know how to call a great game is extremely beneficial. And doing that and putting the puzzle pieces together has been awesome.”

Eflin, who did not allow a homer over 30 2/3 innings in June, also at last got most of the 42,028 fans at packed Citizens Bank Park to root, root, root for the home team. Yankees fans swarmed the stadium for all three games of the series, and ”Let’s go Yankees!” chants boomed at first pitch.

By the time Searanthony Dominguez struck out Gleyber Torres to wrap up his fifth save, over two scoreless innings, Phillies fans were on their feet as Yankees fans trudged toward the exits.

Manager Gabe Kapler implored Phillies fans to pack CBP for the Nationals series.

”You need exposure to that because we expect to be in the playoffs many times in the coming years Elgton Jenkins Jersey ,” he said. ”These are young players that are going to be expected to perform under those conditions. It’s nice to have some exposure to that early in their careers.”

The Yankees, who have the best record in baseball at 52-26, sat slugging outfielder Aaron Judge for the series finale. Boone wanted to pair a day of rest with Thursday’s off day to keep Judge fresh when the team returns to the Bronx for a weekend set with Boston. The Yankees and Red Sox have been neck and neck atop the AL East, the only teams with a legitimate shot at the division title.

Luis Cessa (0-1) lasted only three innings in his first start for the Yankees since last Aug. 14 and was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after taking the loss. The Phillies had two runners on and two outs in the second inning when Hoskins connected on an opposite-field shot to left for his 12th homer of the season. He hit his sixth home run in 17 games this June, and he has given the Phillies a lead with 11 of his homers.

HOSKINS MILESTONES

Hoskins became the fastest Phillie to reach 30 career homers in games played (119), topping Chuck Klein (132) and Ryan Howard (134).

”My first thought was, `Wow.’ Any time you get mentioned in a sentence with either of those guys or anyone of their caliber is pretty humbling,” he said.

RELIEF ACE

Yankees reliever Giovanny Gallegos struck out a career-high six over three innings.

Yankees: After a day off on Thursday, CC Sabathia (4-3, 3.18 ERA) takes the mound to open the three-game set against the Red Sox. Boone said Luis Severino, the majors’ first 12-game winner, will start on Sunday.

Phillies: RHP Aaron Nola (9-2 http://www.packerscheapshoponline.com/cheap-authentic-jace-sternberger-jersey , 2.58) opens the first of a four-game series against the Nationals.

John Hicks showed off his hitting and his speed, and made a nice defensive play to help the Detroit Tigers get another big win against the Chicago White Sox.

Hicks homered and scored the go-ahead run on a fielder’s choice in the eighth inning as the Tigers beat the White Sox 4-3 on Friday night. Victor Martinez had a two-run double to help Detroit improve to 4-0 at Guaranteed Rate Field this season, and 6-1 overall against the Chicago.

Hicks led off the eighth with a single off White Sox reliever Juan Minaya (0-1) and later tagged from second on James McCann’s flyout to right. With the infield in and one out, Victor Reyes hit a grounder to first baseman Jose Abreu. Abreu juggled the ball on the transfer allowing Hicks to beat the throw to the plate.

”I’m getting a little upset about people thinking I’m slow,” said Hicks. ”We were going on contact and I saw the ball down and took off. He (Abreu) bobbled it a little bit. I may have been in trouble if he didn’t then I was able to get around the tag.”

Buck Farmer (2-3) got one out in the seventh for the win and Alex Wilson pitched out of a one-out, bases-loaded jam in the eighth. Wilson got Charlie Tilson to hit a grounder to Hicks at first, who made a nice threw to home for the force out before Adam Engel grounded out.

Shane Greene pitched a scoreless ninth for his 18th save in 21 chances as the Tigers won their third straight.

McCann finished with three hits for Detroit.

White Sox starter Reynaldo Lopez came in 1-1 with a 1.85 ERA in his last five home starts, but wasn’t sharp early. In the second inning, Hicks hit Lopez’s 2-0 pitch over the center-field wall for his sixth homer of the season. Martinez added a two-run double in the third to push Detroit’s lead to 3-0.

Lopez settled down after the third and made it through six innings. He gave up three runs and nine hits, but was visibly upset after leaving the game.

”Sometimes the emotions during the game, the adrenaline, make you keep going. I’m a competitor, said Lopez through a translator. ”I always want to get more when I have a chance to be out there. That probably why I don’t like to get out of the game. I know the decision. I know they always try to make the best decision for us.”

With one out in the sixth, Tigers starter Mike Fiers gave up back-to-back to singles before Omar Narvaez hit his first home run of the season to tie the score. It was Narvaez’s first homer since last Sept. 2 against Tampa Bay.

On the next pitch, Fiers hit Tim Anderson with an offspeed pitch. Anderson took exception and had a few words for Fiers as he walked to first. The White Sox bench started to empty, but the situation was quickly defused.

”I don’t think he meant anything about it. I think it may have been some joke he was trying to get across Dexter Williams Jersey , I don’t know. There was no harm, but I think everything got taken out of hand when (catcher) James McCann kind of jumped up and wondered what was going on and the crowd got loud,” said Fiers.

Anderson agreed with Fiers’ assessment.

”He tried to throw a curveball. It was a mistake. You know, pitchers make mistakes. Everything’s cool,” said Anderson. ”I was telling him, `It’s OK.’ I don’t know what he said to me.”

Fiers allowed three runs and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings.

KOPECH’S FUTURE

Prized prospect RHP Michael Kopech was rocked for five runs on eight walks and two hits in three innings at Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday night. White Sox manager Rick Renteria just wants Kopech (2-5, 5.20 ERA) to get back to basics.

”Just continue to get back to the drawing board, get his work through, his side work. Hopefully, trying to get in a position where he’s commanding his fastball and using his secondary pitch. It is a process. You know, he has had a few tough ones. Hopefully, the next one will be better,” said Renteria.

Renteria said there has been no discussion about Kopech’s prospects of joining the White Sox.

”I can’t speak to his timeline. I haven’t spoken about timelines with any of our guys (in the front office).”
