Langford was also inefficient on a per-touch basis, just ask Mike Clay! This is the case with Michael today, who was drafted late in most leagues, but enters Week 1 atop the Seattle depth chart. Ken snuck in two questions here, which well gladly address. Well take Gores more projectable role over Michaels, although it does come down whether you seek floor or upside, as Michael seems to bear the higher ceiling. Were favoring Gores floor in this case. As for White or Woodhead, well stick with the Chargers change-of-pace back, as he had a valuable goal-line role last year that we dont envision for White. -- J.M.#StartSitESPN Rawls, G Bernard, or Yeldon?— Sam Swem (@samuelswem4) September 11, 2016All three backs are expected to be in committee backfields, but well go with Bernard because he offers the most bankable and projectable role of the trio. Rawls is the best option for the season, assuming he regains a majority share of work and the starting gig from Christine Michael, but there is real mystery as to his role today. The Jets are stingy against the run, but Bernard can get his work done via the passing phase, and his path to say 60 total yards is clearer than Yeldons. -- J.M.#StartSitESPN Sterling Shepard, Alshon or Maclin— Nate Butler (@chocot23) September 11, 2016Maclin is expected to be shadowed by top cover corner Jason Verrett, who earned the second-highest coverage grade among cornerbacks last season on Pro Football Focus. Shepards floor is difficult to trust as a rookie in an offense with a good deal of competition for targets, thus were going with Jeffery and his volume-driven receiving role. Jeffery had the highest team target share among receivers with 40 targets last season. -- J.M.CJ Spiller or Matt Jones #StartSitESPN— CJ (@GentrifiedCoop) September 11, 2016Another good question that serves as a universal dilemma for fantasy users this week, as Jones lingering shoulder injury has incited some doubt about his workload and even availability. Stephania Bell expects to see Jones suit up following his full participation in practice this week, despite the questionable injury designation. Spiller seems to be on the rise in terms of increased snaps and touches in the preseason, but this is still Mark Ingrams backfield. There is some upside to Spiller in PPR formats, but Jones has the stronger role heading in, even against the Steelers sound rush defense. -- J.M.#StartSitESPN D. Walker or M. Bennett PPR— Randy Wright (@Newtown_Wrights) September 11, 2016This is a great question given how popular Bennett proves with Rob Gronkowski ruled out with a hamstring injury, per ESPNs Mike Reiss. Even with Bennetts appealing role, Walker delivers a more defined target share given he led the position in receptions last season and Marcus Mariota ranked fifth in QBR targeting tight ends. Bennett merits top-10 interest and thus is in the TE1 tier, but Walker has the more bankable role on his respective offense. -- J.M.#StartSitESPN Derrick Henry, Kevin White or Kenny Stills for the flex? Standard league— Paul L. (@paullattijr) September 11, 2016White is out of consideration off the bat for me given this is his NFL debut and the Texans offer a capable secondary. White has big-play upside, but these other options are in better respective positions to produce. Given the choice between Henry and Stills, well side with Henry, who is also entering his first pro game but should earn right around double-digit touches as the Titans trend run-heavy in Mike Mularkeys exotic smashmouth scheme. Stills earned a role in two-receiver sets and DeVante Parker is likely out, per Adam Schefter, but the Seattle secondary has proven stingy on the outside, thus we favor the bruising rookie back. -- J.M.#StartSitESPN non ppr flex...Langford, Gore, or Marvin Jones?— Ball Is Life (@Here4Sports06) September 11, 2016Langford appears to be the workhorse in Chicago in a role that could prove truly rewarding, given the sheer upside of 15-plus touches. Marvin Jones is also in a really nice spot, given the Colts banged-up secondary and his rising rapport with Matthew Stafford this offseason. With Gore as the odd-man out in this discussion, we favor the yardage upside Jones offers. Prescott was a dynamic rusher at Mississippi State, averaging more than 800 yards and 12 scores on the ground the past three seasons, but Lucks passing floor is so much higher, and he actually delivers some rushing upside himself. The Cowboys are likely to trend run-heavy to protect the rookie quarterback, while Luck is on a Colts offense that dropped back on 66.7 percent of snaps last season, fourth most in the league. Lets reserve Prescott for streaming situations at the position, for now. -- J.M.#StartSitESPN ware or Floyd- Tal Iverson (@TI20HOCKEY) September 11, 2016With the name Iverson, its easy to win this Philly sports nerds attention, but really we selected this one because Ware is such a common inclusion in lineup dilemmas today. Michael Floyd is a big-play threat who was top five in air yards per target last season, but this also indicates some low-percentage, if high-ceiling outcomes for the Arizona wideout. As for Ware, whom we prefer in this comparison, his rushing role could rewarding today against a San Diego front that was regularly gashed last season as weve mentioned and also proved susceptible again this preseason to big rushing plays. Edelman should remain busy, given we can expect Jimmy Garoppolo to focus on high-percentage, short-distance targets in this game, but Evans simply has more upside and arguably a higher floor given more downfield targets. Both receivers face tough matchups, as the Falcons allowed just 157 receptions to wideouts last season, fewest in football. The Cards, meanwhile, ceded just 178, seventh fewest. That said, the Arizona secondary is stocked throughout with capable coverage talents and we give Evans the edge in quarterback rapport and touchdown upside given his greater depth of target.?-- J.M.Victor Cruz or Fleener as a flex? PPR #StartSitESPN- Danny Camacho (@danny_camach) September 11, 2016Benjamin Watson was fifth in red zone targets among tight ends last season and produced top-10 numbers at the position across all formats. Which is to say we side with Fleener in his rich role with the Saints, one that has long proven rewarding for fantasy investors. The Saints are likely to engage in a shootout in the Superdome based on the ingredients heading in, such as the weeks highest implied point total. With Cruz, we really dont know what well see in terms of snaps and routes given his long absence, so well take the tight end in this scenario.?-- J.M.#StartSitESPN full point PPR league. Woodhead or J Hill? Thx!- Brad Beard (@b_beard81) September 11, 2016Only Adrian Peterson and Devonta Freeman scored more fantasy points than Woodhead among running backs in PPR formats last season. Now we get it, that was last season, and Woody also struggled a great deal versus the Chiefs, failing meet 20 yards from scrimmage in either meeting in 2015. That said, Hill faces a Jets rush defense that allowed just 3.35 yards per tote to backs (second fewest) and a league-low two rushing scores to backfields in 2015. Both players enter with somewhat low floors given precedent, but the scoring format and context of their respective roles favors Woodhead in this specific scenario.?-- J.M.@ESPNFantasy #startsitespn Christine Michaels or James White?- Antonio (@TonyyFuego) September 11, 2016Lets ride with Michael in standard formats, since he is atop his teams depth chart at tailback and enters the season with serious momentum from a positive preseason. Thomas Rawls isnt listed on the injury report, but the team has been vocal about limiting his exposure as he works back from offseason ankle surgery. There is some mystery and risk in deploying either Seattle back, but Michael appears to be in the better spot and could thrive in close-out duties as the teams lead rusher if game script matches Seattles position as the weeks biggest favorite.As for White, hes not in a bad position in PPR formats, per se, as the Cards allowed 92 receptions to backs last season, ninth most in the league, but his role doesnt offer much scoring upside and hes isolated to third-down, change-of-pace work, thus Michaels stronger early-down share appears more appealing. Riddick averaged 0.58 fantasy points per route run last season, the highest rate among backs with at least 50 routes. Yeldon is a talented back who graded well in Pro Football Focus elusive rating last season, but a share for meaningful touches with Chris Ivory, who appears ready to go today despite a calf injury, clouds his role a bit. All this said, Riddick delivers the higher floor and Yeldon has a higher ceiling given he also has a chance at early-down touches, thus this isnt so binary as much as contextual.?J.M.#StartSitESPN Ryan Matthews or Frank Gore week 1 ?- Ryan Leleux (@CEO_LooLoo) September 11, 2016Mathews merits the start here given hes the more elusive and explosive back on an offense that should trend run-heavier than the Colts. Mathews was fourth among NFL backs last season with 2.93 yards before contact per rush and ninth in yards after contact per tote (2.15 yards after contact per rush), which is to say he excelled once he got the ball and after he engaged with defenders. The main concern with Mathews has long been durability and availability, but hes entering the season healthy and should match or even exceed the workload estimated for Gore.-- J.M.@ESPNFantasy with Gronk out who should I replace him with? Per ESPNs Raiders reporter Paul Gutierrez, Walford is a rising fantasy asset heading into the new season, With his size and soft hands, should be a prime red zone target for Carr, so watch for some intriguing two-tight end sets to take advantage of dual skill sets, especially Walfords athleticism. The Saints, meanwhile, allowed the most fantasy points to tight ends last season and 70 percent more than the Redskins had in 2015. With this game in the Superdome claiming the highest implied point total on the slate, even ancillary shares of the skill players involved is intriguing.James is a fine option for deeper formats and the decision isnt easy, thus youre asking for some counsel. Ben Roethlisberger has the fifth-best QBR targeting tight ends since 2014, but we simply prefer the matchup and point total ingredients for Walford.?-- J.M.PPR Lacy or Ware for RB2 #StartSitESPN- Jeff (@bdsoccer11) September 11, 2016Lacy has the stronger season-long value given his role as the lead back on a promising Packers offense, yet Ware is in stronger position for this weeks window. Ware tallied 101 total yards and two scores against the Chargers last November and should again thrive with the majority snap and touch share with Jamaal Charles ruled out, per ESPNs Adam Schefter. Concerns about Charcandrick West cutting into Wares workload are reasonable, but with goal-line duties and an edge for a majority share of overall touches were siding with Ware as the choice over Lacy for Week 1. The Jaguars, meanwhile, allowed the fifth-fewest yards per carry to backs last season at just 3.66 per, while the Chargers were soft against the run and ranked 31st in this department, ceding 4.97 per tote to backs.?-- J.M.
