Dallas, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Nate Thompsons goal with 2:30 played in overtime lifted Anaheim to a 2-1 decision over Dallas from American Airlines Center. Corey Perry accepted a drop pass from Cam Fowler just inside the Dallas blue line, took one stride before making a hard stop below the left circle and hammering a shot towards the net. The puck deflected off Thompson and sailed by Kari Lehtonen to end the contest. Whenever you score a goal, a big goal, its great. I was just going to the net and got my stick on it, Thompson said. Perry added a second-period marker for the Ducks, while Frederik Andersen made 21 saves. Antoine Roussel produced the lone offense for the Stars, with Lehtonen stopping 22 pucks in defeat. Perry provided the first goal of the contest with 3:15 to play in the second period, when he received a stretch pass from Francois Beauchemin in the neutral zone, skated up the right wing and scored on a long drive. Andersen might have been bored keeping the Stars at bay and then maintaining that slim margin, as Dallas recorded just one shot in the middle frame. The Ducks had a potential insurance goal with eight minutes played in the third period wiped out. Tim Jackman broke in with a Stars defender on his back and flipped a backhander on net which Lehtonen stopped, but with the host netminder on his back and Jackmans momentum carrying him through the crease, a trailing Josh Manson pushed the rebound home. The call on the ice was to immediately disallow the score because the goaltenders ability to play the puck was impaired. The hosts evened the score just as an Anaheim bench minor expired, with Roussel beating Andersen with 5:27 to play on a tap-in from the left side. Game Notes Perry leads the NHL with 10 goals ... The Los Angeles Kings jumped out to a 3-0 first-period lead and the Chicago Blackhawks couldnt catch them, with the Kings taking a 5-2 decision in Game Four to take a 3-1 lead in the series. Kings D Jake Muzzin scored the first of two power play goals for the Kings. Playing more than 21 minutes per game in the playoffs, Muzzin now has 11 points, placing him third among defencemen in the postseason. Not bad for a guy who didnt hook on with an NHL club until the Kings signed him during his overage junior season in Sault Ste. Marie. Four years later, Muzzin is on the top defence pairing for a team closing in on the Western Conference title. Muzzin is paired with Drew Doughty, who also had a goal and an assist in Game Four (though his goal appeared to be deflected in by Dwight King) and leads defencemen with 14 points in the playoffs. Game Four was so well in hand for the Kings that they could limit Doughtys ice time; 23:55 was Doughtys lowest ice time since Game Two of the playoffs (after which he complained about his lack of ice time). For once, the Blackhawks didnt get burned by the line of Jeff Carter, Tanner Pearson and Tyler Toffoli, until Pearson scored into an empty net, though Pearson had a team-high seven shot attempts and tied Carter with a team-leading four shots on goal. The bad news for Chicago is that the Kings other top scorers got on track. Marian Gaborik scored a goal while Anze Kopitar and Justin Williams each picked up a couple of assists; Kopitar extending his playoff scoring lead with 22 points and Gaborik leads all playoff goal-scorers, with 10. In their ultimately fruitless attempt to come back, the Blackhawks chances were created by their power forwards. Marian Hossa, Bryan Bickell and Brandon Sadd had nine, eight and seven shot attempts, respectively, to lead the Blackhawks. Saad and Bickell scored Chicagos goals. Chicagos leaders, C Jonathan Toews and RW Patrick Kane, skated together for most of the game, as the Blackhawks tried to shake up lines and it didnt really work. While both assisted on Bickells third-period goal, Toews didnt register a shot on goal (though, immediately preceding Bickells goal, Doughty basically blocked a Toews shot in the crease to prevent a goal), the second time in the series Toews has been held without a shot on goal. The Blackhawks need their big guns to be firing, but they also need G Corey Crawford to perform better. After allowing four goals on 20 shots in Game Four, Crawford has stopped 69 of 82 shots (.841 SV%) in the last three games. The goals against arent all on Crawford, to be sure but, no matter how you slice it, .841 isnt good enough to win. Blackhawks C Michal Handzus played a game-low 4:28, not seeing the ice beyond six minutes into the second period. This isnt the first time in the playoffs that a team, on the verge of elimination, has looked like they were on the way out, and thats the situation in which the Blackhawks find themselves now. More than 90% of teams with a three-game-to-one lead in an NHL playoff series go on to win, so the Blackhawks have a steep hill to climb. But, they can look across the ice and take heart, knowing that the Kings had to overcome a three-games-to-none deficit in Round One against San Jose to get turned loose on this playoff run. Right now, the Kings look invincible, but hockey is a funny game sometimes and if the Blackhawks are better on home ice in Game Five, maybe they still have a way to dig out of this hole. STEVENAGE, England -- Everton manager Roberto Martinez says Costa Rica international Bryan Oviedo may have suffered a double fracture of his left leg on Saturday in an FA Cup match, potentially ruling him out of the World Cup in Brazil. Oviedo, one of his countrys top players, was taken to hospital after being hurt in a challenge in the 14th minute of the fourth-round match against Stevenage. receiving a pass from Ha

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- NHL general managers spent the first day of their three-day meetings discussing overtime and shootouts, expanded video reviews and goalie interference. The opening session Monday featured three breakout groups of 10 general managers, with each group assigned particular topics. There appears to be some concern that too many games are being decided in shootouts instead of during the flow of play. Of the 135 of 963 games played through last Saturday, 14 per cent were decided in a shootout. And 40 per cent that went to overtime were decided in a shootout. Among the suggested changes being discussed are a 3-on-3 element instead of four skaters apiece in the extra 5-minute session; extending the overtime; or requiring teams to switch ends of the ice, creating a longer change on line changes. But there doesnt seem to be a strong consensus toward any particular direction -- or even if overtime needs to be changed. Colin Campbell, the NHL executive vice-president and director of hockey operations, viewed the overtime issue as both an official and a hockey fan. "I think what the challenge is to maybe not have as many shootouts," Campbell said. "A lot of people in the game would rather see the game decided (not) in a skills contest. "I would, too, but Im the last one to leave the room when theyre doing the shootout. I like watching to see whats going to happen. So Im kind of torn in that direction." The discussion of expanded video review seems weighted on when to start reviewing the tape and how much time a review takes. "I will say there wasnt a lot of consensus on the criteria," said Craig MacTavish, Edmontons general manager. "Theres a lot that goes into it when youre trying to evaluate the specific criteria, like how long from the incident are you going to reel it back? "There was no resolution in our group in terms of making many changes to video review." The increase in activity around the net has also led to an interest in goalie interference at this weeks meetings. "Theres so much play around the net now, the way our game is now with everybody collapsing and boxing out and blocking shots," said Bryan Murray, Ottawas GM. "All the plays now that are goals, in most cases, theres some kind of foot in the crease. Im not interested in that. But if the goaltender is not allowed to make a play on the shot, then we should we get the call as correct as we can." Also on the agenda is kicked-in goals. "I think there is an appetite to have directed goals be allowed," said Tim Murray, Buffalos general manager. "I know it says distinct kicking motion, but (with) a blatant lift-your-foot-off-the-ice kick type of thing not allowed." On Tuesday, members of the breakout groups will report to the whole meeting. After allowing three goals on the first four shots, Simpson was pulled in favour of LaBarbera. Ross got the IceHogs on the board at 16:33 of the second, receiving a pass from Hartman near the goal-line and throwing it on net and under Ortios arm. With 2:26 remaining in the period, Klas Dahlbeck picked up a rebound at the point and fired it towards an open net, but Ortio dove across the crease in desperation to keep the score 3-1. Clendening cut the score to 4-2 at 6:40 of the third, receiving a pass from Phillip Danault at the right circle and firing a slap shot on Ortio, who flubbed a glove save. J.P. Parise, a member of Canadas 1972 Summit Series team who played for the Minnesota North Stars and New York Islanders over his NHL career, has died from lung cancer. He was 73. The Minnesota Wild said that Parise died Wednesday night at his home in the Minneapolis suburb of Prior Lake. Son and Wild star Zach Parise informed the team of his fathers death. We appreciate the outpouring of support we have received from family, friends and the entire hockey community during this difficult time, the Parise family said Thursday in a statement. J.P. was a great husband, father and grandpa and will be greatly missed by all of us. During his playing career, Parise is most remembered for skating on a line with Phil Esposito and Wayne Cashman during the Summit Series and getting ejected in the eighth game, which Canada won on Paul Hendersons famous goal. Parise played in six of the eight games during the legendary series against the Soviet Union. Friend and longtime teammate Tom Reid said he has a photo of Parise going after the referee in that game hanging in his pub. I think that kind of turned things around, Reid told reporters in St. Paul, Minn. The referee didnt call any more penalties against Canada. He was a big part of the success of that. Hockey Canada chief operating officer Scott Smith credits that team for the growth of the game across Canada. I think that group of 1972 players contributed greatly to both things: the interest in international hockey and the significance of any Canada-Russia game but also for the development of coaches at the grassroots level, Smith said in a phone interview. Sidney Crosby, who played for Parise at Shattuck-St. Marys prep school, said during Canadas 2014 Olympic orientation camp that some of what he knows of the Canada-Russia rivalry came from his coach. Parise, a native of Smooth Rock Falls, Ont., spent most of his NHL career with the North Stars and was a two-time all-star. He had 594 points (238 goals, 356 assists) in 890 games from 1965-79 with the Boston Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs, North Stars, Islanders and Cleveland Barons. The National Hockey League family mourns the passing and cherishes the memory of J.P. Parise, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said in a statement. Especially in his adopted home state of Minnesota, J.P. was a consummate player, teacher and administrator in the game. The Parise name has been prominent in Minnesota hockey since the 1960s, and J.P.s commitment and passion for the NHL lives on through his son, Zach. The NHL sends heartfelt condolences to J.P.s family, to his friends, to the Minnesota Wild organization and to all the organizations J.P. represented with such passion. After retirement, Parise spent nine seasons as a North Stars assistant coach. He later ran the hockey program at Shattuck-St. Marys school in Faribault, one of the top prep hockey schools in the U.S. Parise helped oversee the growth of NHL stars such as Crosby and Jonathan Toews. He was the director when they were here and was a big part of those guys, Shattuck-St. Marys hockey director Tom Ward said. I know both those guys spent some weekends at the Parises house and he let them come over and stay in Zach and Jordans bedroom a couple weekends and helped those kids along when they were a long way from home and young kids and was a mentor to a lot of kids here. In an interview last year with the Star Tribune, Parise was philosophical about his cancer. Thats life, he said. If someone was to tell you today that youre going to be going at 77, 78, youd say, Boy, thats not bad. I never think of this shortening my life, this shortening anything Im going to do. Im still going to travel, Im still going to watch hockey. Over the weekend, Zach Parise talked about the impending loss of his father with the Star Tribune. Its the hardest thing Ive ever had to deal with in my life, he told the newspaper. You try and find that separation, you try to come here and be around the guys and not think about it, and Yeozie (coach Mike Yeo) has been really good and the teams been really good giving me the day off, saying basically, Just show up for games. Theyve been really supportive about it, but the hard part about it is you try to go to the rink and forget about stuff, but the hard part is, this was kind of our thing. Hockey was our thing, Parise added, fighting back tears. Him coming to every game or watching every game and talking to him after every game and talking hockey, thats not there anymore. Zach Parise also went to Shattuck and is now in his 10th NHL season and third with the Wild. Former Stars forward Mike Modano posted a note on Twitter after hearing the news. Our Thoughts and prayers go out to Zach Parise and his family on the passing of J.P. All our best, Modano tweeted. Funeral arrangements were pending. ——— With files from The Associated Press. The Buffalo Sabres just wrapped up an abysmal season in which they finished 14 points behind the second-worst team in the standings. The good news? In an ideal world, best-case scenario, the Sabres would still seem to be three-to-four years -- yes, years -- away from being a playoff team, so patience is required. That includes from the new general manager. Its one thing to have an aggressive plan, but if Murray is going to wait for his draft picks to mature as NHL players, theres no magical way to expedite that process. Sure, its possible that the Sabres could move picks for young talent, but players develop on their own timeline and its going to take time for 18-and-19-year-olds to become difference-makers in the NHL. For next season, there are obviously openings for young players to make the jump. Last years first-round picks, Rasmus Ristolainen and Nikita Zadorov, should challenge for spots, but a whole host of prospects will have a chance and there is the matter of this years top picks. The Sabres have the second pick and could pick fifth as well if the New York Islanders elect to give up the pick this year instead of 2015 (a decision still to be made by the Islanders as part of the Thomas Vanek trade). For all the theoretical promise that the Sabres have, they remain frontrunners for McDavid or Jack Eichel at the top of the 2015 Draft. The TSN.ca Rating is an efficiency rating based on per-game statistics including goals and assists -- weighted for strength (ie. power play, even, shorthanded) -- Corsi, adjusted for zone starts, quality of competition and quality of teammates, hits, blocked shots, penalty differential and faceoffs. Generally, a replacement-level player is around a 60, a top six forward and top four defenceman will be around 70, stars will be over 80 and MVP candidates could go over 90. Sidney Crosby finished at the top of the 2013-2014 regular season ratings at 87.12. Salary cap information all comes from the indispensable www.capgeek.com. The 24-year-old has enough skill to be a good second-line scorer, but he gets fed tougher assignments because the Sabres dont have anyone else. He played some wing late in the year, but as this roster is constructed, Hodgson or Tyler Ennis will likely be the de facto No. 1 centre. RW Drew Stafford is another Sabres veteran who is asked to do way too much. He played a career-high 19:38 per game last season and the return was a modest 16 goals and 34 points. A three-time 20-goal scorer with good size and some skill with the puck, hes also forced into a first-line role on a bad team when he could more reasonably fit as a second-line scoring winger. Going into the final year of his contract, Stafford could be a trade candidate leading up to the deadline. Though he got into a handful of games for the Sabres after he was acquired from the Blues as part of the Ryan Miller trade, RW Chris Stewart is a prime candidate to move again, whether its this summer or next season; in part, because hes entering the final year of his deal. Hes big winger who can play the power forward game, at his best, but his career has been up and down, from two 28-goal seasons to leading the Blues in scoring in 2012-2013, to playing 14:41 per game this past season, his lowest time on ice since his rookie year. 20-year-old Zemgus Girgensons rode a lightning bolt, going from the USHL to an everyday spot in the NHL after one year in the AHL, and was a solid contributor as a rookie. He plays a physical game and could, with a better supporting cast, become a player that can handle tough checking assignments as he matures. A couple years removed from his best years in San Jose, Torrey Mitchell can be used in a checking role, taking a heavier proportion of defensive zone starts, but hes also going into the last year of his contract, so he may not be around Buffalo for the long haul. It seems a given that the Sabres will buy out the final three seasons, and $11-million, due to Ville Leino after he failed to score a goal in 58 games, a feat that put him in rather ignominious company. The contract was ill-conceived when it was signed three years ago and, after 10 goals and 46 points in 137 games, it is probably best for both parties to move on. Admittedly, its easier to make that determination when its someone else that has to pay a player $7-million to not play for their team, but Murray has said it is a "very good possibility" that Leino will be bought out. Signed to an inexpensive one-way deal for next season, Brian Flynn has an opportunity to earn his spot as a checking forward. At the same time, he turns 26 this summer and has 24 points in 105 career NHL games, so he needs to establish that he can contribute enough in a checking role if hes going to have an NHL career that runs longer than next season. For a rebuilding team like Buffalo, its not the worst thing in the world to have a player with some hunger to make an impression filling out one of the lower spots on the depth chart. A tiny skilled forward who has a couple of 20-goal seasons under his belt, Tyler Ennis is a restricted free agent who is due a raise and, like Hodgson, is one of the Sabres that gets force-fed more minutes because there just arent better alternatives. Also, like Hodgson, its easy to see how Ennis could be a good complementary scorer on a more competitive team. Since scoring five goals and 12 points in the first seven games of his career (with Tampa Bay in 2012-2013), Cory Conacher has managed 13 goals and 43 points in 119 games. He may not be a prolific scorer in the NHL (after scoring 114 points in 118 career AHL games), but Conacher is also an okay possession player who is skilled enough to overcome a lack of size. If nothing else, he can be a reasonably-priced top nine forward for the Sabres. A sturdy winger who may have set unreasonable expectations when he burst into the NHL in 2011-2012, scoring 13 points in 14 games, LW Marcus Foligno hasnt scored anywhere near that rate since, but thats more in line with his track record coming into the NHL. Maybe hell develop some scoring touch but, in the meantime, Foligno can be a contributor in a physical checking role. The Sabres have, or will have, some pieces that they will be able to use to fill out their forward roster. Whomever they select with the second pick in the draft, if it ends up being Sam Reinhart or Sam Bennett, might have an opportunity to stick, though an argument can easily be made that its not worth burning an entry-level year for an 18-year-old to step into this lineup. Prospects Mikhail Grigorenko and Johan Larsson should have chances to compete for jobs, and Joel Armia may be ready to join the club at some point next season after further AHL seasoning. Whether they decide to keep an enforcer, like John Scott, around or not, the Sabres should have some lineup flexibility next season. When it comes to adding free agents, the Sabres may be able to nibble on the edges. Sure, it would be nice to add some with local ties, like Rochester-born Ryan Callahan, but if Callahan has other suitors, it doesnt make for the Sabres to shell out big long-term money for a 29-year-old winger. At the right price (and term), a veteran like Milan Michalek or Buffalo native Lee Stempniak would probably add stability in what is likely to be a trying season. Its been quite an unusual career path for Tyler Myers, who was a star-in-waiting as a 19-year-old, but seems to have lost his way. Myers seemed to play better over his last dozen or so games before suffering some injuries late in the year. A 24-year-old signed through 2019, Myers has time to improve and it would probably be worthwhile for the Sabres to give him another year to see what they really have in hand. Theres nothing flashy about Mark Pysyks game, but hes been steady on a bad team since first coming up in 2012-2013. Even so, he was still demoted to the AHL for a couple of months last season and while it might have allowed him to play a significant role and not be subject to losing night after night, its not unreasonable to expect that 22-year-old Pysyk will be much more ready to handle NHL action next season than some of the Sabres other defence prospects. Mike Weber is a tough, stay-at-home defenceman but, as is often the case with stay-at-home defencemen, he gets crushed in terms of puck possession and its difficult to make the case that he is going to improve in that regard. He can be place-filler, eating up some minutes while the prospects gain their NHL footing, but is more suited to a depth role. Jamie McBain burst into the NHL, late in the 2009-2010 season, playing big minutes for Carolina, and lookedl ike he was well on his way to a long and fruitful career. Now, hes 26, and coming off a season in which he played more than 20 minutes per game, but also took some lumps in the possession game, so its been a rather uneven ride to this point. The restricted free agent is capable enough to fill a spot on next seasons blueline, but expectations are sufficiently modest. Most of the holes on the Sabres defence can be filled by prospects -- Pysyk, Rasmus Ristolainen, Nikita Zadorov, Jake McCabe -- though that doesnt mean the holes will go away entirely. Those young defencemen are going to take some time to develop and if it means they learn on the job next season, theres value in gaining that experience, even if it hurts the short-term results. In the name of immediate reliability, an inexpensive veteran like Mike Weaver or a reclamation project like Andrej Meszaros could be worth a look but, considering the expectations for next season, the Sabres could be fine to let their prospects play and see who is ready to sink or swim, knowing that there isnt huge downside to sinking. While his overall numbers were mediocre in 2013-2014, Enroth did have a .929 save percentage at 5-on-5 and that should be enough to get consideration for a bigger role next season as the Sabres embark on life without Ryan Miller. Enroth will battle for playing time with Michal Neuvirth, the 26-year-old who had fallen out of favour in Washington. Neuvirth played 48 games in 2010-2011, having handled a heavier workload in the NHL before, yet both goaltenders arent really established at this point in their careers, so the Sabres arent obligated to one or the other. They can alternate or let one of the goalies take the starting job with superior performance. No matter who is in the net, theyre likely to be busy. Top Prospects Player Pos. Ristolainen fared a little better late in the year, after he was recalled, posting a 43.4% Corsi%, and none of those struggles as a teen defenceman should take away from his status as a top prospect. He has size, can move the puck and ought to gain valuable experience next year. Hard-hitting Nikita Zadorov could force his way onto the team next year too, as he showed promise in an early-season stint with the Sabres, before having a strong year in London. Zadorov is huge and can be a punishing hitter. He needs to pick his spots better as he climbs the ladder, but Zadorovs physical play combined with his skill gives him a high ceiling. It could be said that Mikhail Grigorenko will have to succeed despite the development plan the Sabres had for him -- presuming there was one -- to this point. Since being drafted 12th overall in 2012, Hes bounced between the Sabres (8 points in 43 games), Rochester (four points in 11 games) and Quebec of the QMJHL (116 points in 72 regular season plus playoff games). Theres talent there, but hes been overwhelmed at the NHL level, so it could make sense to let him start next year in the AHL, establish his game as a pro scoring centre and go from there. The 16th pick in 2011, Joel Armia didnt score much in his first North American pro season, but thats not unusual for a 20-year-old. Next season will be a big opportunity for Armia to take the next step and score like he did in Finland. A good season could set him up nicely for a future at right wing on a scoring line for the Sabres. A second-round pick last year, J.T. Compher had an impressive freshman campaign at Michigan. He plays a two-way game and has time to develop an offensive game before he embarks on a pro career. Taken in the second round in 2012, Jake McCabe is a two-way defenceman who can play the power play and play a physical game defensively. There will be some competition for jobs on the Sabres blueline next year but, even though he played seven games for Buffalo late in the year, theres no need to rush McCabe into the lineup. Some heavy minutes in the AHL should be good for his development. In industrious forward, Johan Larsson managed just four assists in 28 games with the Sabres, but his relative possession stats were promising enough that he could start in a depth role next season. A winger with good size and speed, Nick Baptiste blossomed offensively after he was a third-round pick last summer, jumping from 21 goals and 48 points in his draft year to 45 goals and 89 points this season. As the Sabres stockpile young assets, Baptiste will have to remain productive to stay at the forefront, but hes one of their best offensive prospects at the moment. A power forward who had a nice freshman season at the University of Minnesota, Hudson Fasching was picked up in a trade deadline trade with Los Angeles. He has upside, and the Sabres can afford to wait a few years to see if he develops into a pro scoring winger. Smallish defenceman Chad Ruhwedel, soon to be 24, is more mature than the other Sabres defence prospects, and he was relatively effective in 21 games for Buffalo. He doesnt have the same kind of future with the franchise as the top picks, so he can be bypassed more easily, but if the young D prospects arent ready, Ruhwedel could offer more immediate help. A converted defenceman who was acquired with Fasching when Brayden McNabb was sent to Los Angeles, Nicolas Deslauriers got a good look with the Sabres at the end of the year. Though he managed just one goal in 17 games, Deslauriers is a sturdy forward who managed decent relative possession stats and the 23-year-old could make the club next season. The Sabres have some other prospects of note including Swedish scoring winger Gustav Possler, goaltender Matt Hackett, who is coming off a down season, and Daniel Catenacci, who had 20 points in 76 games as a first-year pro. Hamilton took off from pole position and stayed ahead of Rosberg -- despite the German closing to less than a second in a tense final lap -- to record a fourth consecutive victory and move ahead of his teammate in the overall standings. Hamiltons 100 points after five races put him three points ahead of Rosberg, who failed to find a way in front of his main rival for a fourth straight time after winning the season opener. His 26th career win gave Hamilton one more than former world champions Niki Lauda, who now works for Mercedes, and Jim Clark. Hamilton set himself on course to add to his own title from 2008. He hadnt led the championship since June 2012 after winning the Canadian GP with McLaren. "This is our fourth one-two, its just unreal," Hamilton said after Rosberg helped douse him in champagne to celebrate his first victory at the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit. "Getting my first win here after trying for eight years, it is difficult to put into words my feeling. I have never had a car like this. I have never had a gap like this. I am grateful I was able to keep (Rosberg) behind me." Red Bulls Daniel Ricciardo finished third for his first career podium after coming close on three occasions this year. Four-time defending champion Sebastian Vettel had a flawless drive to move up from a 15th-place start to finish fourth, with his Red Bull finally not having any problems following two days of it stalling in practice and qualifying. Valtteri Bottas of Williams was fifth, followed by struggling Ferrari duo Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen in sixth and seventh. Lotus Romain Grosjean and Force India pari Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg rounded out the points. McLaren made no progress with Jenson Button and Kevin Magnussen coming in 11th and 12th. Not even a three-week break for their rivals to improve their cars prevented Mercedes from earning its fifth winn in as many events this year in a disheartening display for the other 10 teams.dddddddddddd Ricciardo ended up more than 48 seconds slower than Rosberg. Alonso was left in a distant third place in the standings with 49 points, followed by Vettel with 45. Mercedes increased its lead in the constructors championship race to 197 points. Red Bull is second with 84 points, with Ferrari trailing in third with 66. After executing a clean start, the Silver Arrows focused on protecting their tires and preparing a final fight at the end of the race to decide which driver would to settle with being runner-up. The two opted for different pit stop strategies, with Hamilton pitting first to change to a faster pair of medium tries before Rosberg went in to get a second set of slower, but more resistant, hard tires. It appeared Rosbergs tactics to then finish on his set of faster tires was going to pay off as Hamiltons advantage evaporated, but Hamilton kept his nerves in check and his vehicle in front until the 66th and final lap. Hamilton led all of the way, but he asked his team for help on several occasions -- as well as complaining about the tire strategy -- after never being able to shake Rosberg. And although this race didnt see any close calls between the drivers, as happened in Bahrain earlier this season, they were close right down to the last turn as Hamilton crossed 0.6 seconds ahead of Rosberg. "I think if I had had one more lap I could have given it a go," Rosberg said. "I could have gone for a kamikaze move, but that wouldnt have made sense. I will try to get that little extra bit and edge him out next time." Only two cars didnt finish, Caterhams Kamui Kobayashi and Jean-Eric Vergne of Toro Rosso. Vergne retired during the 26th lap due to an exhaust problem. That brought an end to an error-plagued weekend for Vergne, who was penalized 10 places when his wheel flew off in Fridays practice. Earlier on Sunday, the vintage car that was supposed to ferry him through the pre-race drivers parade puttered to a stop, forcing Vergne to hitch a ride with Marussias Max Chilton and his chauffeur. Leroy Fer and Ngolo Kante battle for the ball This is a dream for Leicester and I understand a few weeks ago why Claudio had tears [at Sunderland].I am very happy for him. I hope they can win it because they deserve it. Leon Britton says Swansea are very disappointed with their performance following a 4-0 defeat to Leicester but hailed his opponents confidence Guidolin watched his side capitulate after captain Ashley Williams mistake gifted Mahrez a 10th-minute opener, but up until that moment the Italian was pleased with how his side started. We began the game very well, he added. I was very happy in the first few minutes but after the first goal we had to change the mentality and the way we played. When Leicester are winning 1-0 its very difficult to play against them because they counter-attack very quickly.Swansea are safe this season but have now shipped seven goals in their last two games following last weeks 3-0 defeat at Newcastle. Alan Smith joins Patrick Davison to reflect on Leicesters 4-0 victory over Swansea Next up is Liverpool at the Liberty Stadium next Sunday and Guidolin has warned his side they need to be motivated against Jurgen Klopps side if they want to avoid another heavy defeat.Today I saw my team fight for 90 minutes against the strongest team in the Premier League, the Italian said. Each day, TSN.ca provides the latest rumours, reports and speculation from around the NFL beat. Feeling Better? It looks like Rob Gronkowski is healing more and more each day at New England Patriots camp. According to NFL Medias Albert Breer, the tight end increased his output to half-to-three quarter speed and moved from strictly individual drills and into 11-on-11. "Now, for the first few days of camp, he wasnt in 7-on-7 drills and he wasnt in 11-on-11 drills. But what we just saw out here a few minutes ago, that might be changing. They actually had him out there for some half-speed 11-on-11 work, so it looks like hes continuing to take those steps forward toward Week 1," Breer said Sunday. "Everything that you see here indicates that Gronk is going to be a go for Week 1, even if they are taking it a little easy on him right now." The Legend Continues Sammy Watkins has impressed everyone and their cousin at Buffalo Bills training camp and he doesnt look to be slowing down. The praise heaped on the rookie wideout is firing from all cylinders, including two of the most important members of the Bills organization - general manager Doug Whaley and head coach Doug Marrone. "Sammy is as advertised, and actually even better than advertised because of everything he does off field," Whaley said, as quoted by CBS Sports NFL insider Jason La Canfora. "His preparation, his want to be the best, his professionalism. He is wise beyond his years." "Hes probably the first player up every morning, annd then you also see him working on the field after practice.dddddddddddd Hes really humble, and hes a hard worker. Hes earned it. Hes been everything you hope for," Marrone added. First Sighting The Denver Broncos are playing in front of their fans for the first time since the Super Bowl. The team had to close its Dove Valley training facilities at training camp because of an ongoing $35 million construction project. To accommodate their fans, the Broncos are holding three workouts at Sports Authority Field over the next week. Sunday marked the first chance for fans to get to see Peyton Manning this summer along with the Broncos draft class and free agents T.J. Ward, Aqib Talib, DeMarcus Ware and Emmanuel Sanders. Coach John Fox said, "I think our players are excited. Anytime they walk in there its such a great spot and we have such great fans. That obviously sparks them." Fault Line The Miami Dolphins put on full pads for the first time today at training camp and that still didnt help out the offensive line. Even though the added gear should have slowed down Miamis speedy defensive front, that group continued to find an edge both in passing and running situations. As a result, Miamis quarterbacks had to get rid of the ball quicker or in some cases take a sack. Not good news considering Ryan Tannehill was sacked a league-high 58 times last year. Coach Joe Philbin is being patient early with a brand new starting five that includes a rookie at right tackle in first-round draft pick JaWuan James. But veteran left tackle Branden Albert, a Pro Bowler last year, had his own struggles. to see Sam racking up sacks

WASHINGTON -- Gavin Floyd had never heard the name of the piece of bone he broke inside his elbow. Manager Fredi Gonzalez didnt even try to pronounce it. But no matter how you say "olecranon," it spells more bad news for the Atlanta Braves pitching staff. Floyd, recently recovered from elbow ligament replacement surgery, fractured the bony tip of the forearm bone that sticks out behind the elbow when he threw a curveball to lead off the seventh inning of Thursday nights 3-0 win over the Washington Nationals. "It was fine until that last pitch," Floyd said. "I felt a pop." Its the latest setback for an injury-riddled staff that lost starters Kris Medlen and Brandon Beachy and reliever Cory Gearrin to Tommy John surgery during spring training, upending a major plank in the Braves plans to repeat as NL East champions. "Its been a tough one, ever since spring training," third baseman Chris Johnson said. "But weve got to keep moving forward. Hopefully its nothing too bad and we can get him back soon." Floyd will return to Atlanta on Friday to be examined by team doctors. The injury is so rare that the Braves couldnt provide even a guess of a timetable for his return. A similar injury ended the career of Detroit Tigers reliever Joel Zumaya in 2010. "In the big picture, I think hes going to be OK," Gonzalez said. Floyd flexed his pitching arm awkwardly after the fateful pitch, which turned into a long foul ball by Jayson Werth down the left field line. After an examination by the Braves trainer on the mound, Floyd left the game for reliever Anthony Varvaro. "It was a weird spot," Floyd said. "It was a little sore before, but not in the area that I had surgery." Floyd (2-2) was making his ninth start since recovering from Tommy John surgery, but Gonzalez said the two injuries are not related. "What a shame," Gonzalez said. "The guy comes all the way back from Tommy John. ... I feel for the young man." Floyd had been working on a two-hit shutout. He threw only 64 pitches, walking one and striking out six to drop his ERA to 2.65 in his first season with Atlanta. "Thats the best Ive seen him look," Johnson said. "For those first six innings, he was dealing, he was nasty, so thats really a tough break." Floyds career record is 72-72 over 11 seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago White Sox and Braves. "I felt like I was getting better and better, so its definitely disappointing," Floyd said. "Definitely not what I envisioned to happen. I havent had any pain since the surgery." The win moved the Braves within a half-game of the first-place Nationals atop the NL East as the division rivals opened a four-game series. Atlanta had been trending downward recently, losing eight of 12 entering the series. Johnson drove in all three of the Braves runs, two on a bases-loaded single in the fourth and another on a line drive that smacked reliever Jerry Blevins left knee in the eighth. Blevins was examined by the Nationals trainer but remained in the game to face one more batter. Jordan Zimmermann (5-4), coming off consecutive complete games, had his second straight hard-luck start for the Nationals. He lost 1-0 to Lance Lynn and the St. Louis Cardinals last Friday, and this time he allowed only two runs and seven hits through seven innings. Zimmermann has also had Tommy John surgery and naturally empathized with Floyd. "You never want another pitcher to get injured. I dont know what really happened," Zimmermann said. "Obviously, it was bad enough for him to come out of the game. Hopefully, hell be all right." NOTES: Evan Gattis extended his hitting streak to 18 games -- the longest active streak in the majors and best ever by a Braves catcher. ... Craig Kimbrel picked up his 21st save for the Braves, who have won 23 of 30 against the Nationals. ... Nationals OF Bryce Harper took on-field batting practice before the game for the first time since undergoing thumb surgery last month. Hes expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment next week before re-joining the team in mid-July. . Nationals Manager Matt Williams said C Wilson Ramos (strained right hamstring) should be ready to re-join the team when eligible to come off of the DL June 26. Ramos will begin a rehab assignment over the weekend or the beginning of next week. . Braves OF Justin Upton was out of the starting lineup for the second straight game with an inner ear ailment causing dizziness, but he appeared as pinch-hitter in the eighth inning and grounded out. . The Braves placed RHP Pedro Beato on the DL with a sore right elbow. He was called up to the Braves earlier this week and pitched in relief both Tuesday and Wednesday. The Braves promoted RHP Juan Jaime from Triple-A Gwinnett, his first call-up to the majors. Anthony Tolliver Jersey . Watch the game live on TSN and TSN GO at 9pm et/6pm pt. TSN.cas writing staff reflects on the best football moments from the past 12 months including Odell Beckhams all-time grab, Richard Shermans epic rant, Michael Sams brave step forward and more! The Johnny Manziel Experiment Fails Miserably in Cleveland By Mike Hetherington It was story of the NFL Draft; where would electrifying quarterback Johnny Manziel go? The Cleveland Browns answered the question when they traded up to select to Johnny Football with the 22nd-overall pick. Manziel walked across the stage of Radio City Music Hall and gave his patented money celebration. Manziel lost out on the starting quarterback job in the preseason after going 30-of-59 for 296 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. Manziel lacked a wow performance in the preseason but continued to add to his polarizing personality by raising a certain finger to the Washington Redskins bench in his second game – earning him a $12K fine. Due to a surprising 7-4 start, Manziel saw little action through the first 12 weeks of the season. But, with starter Brian Hoyers play slipping and a fan base impatiently waiting to see the rookie, the Browns gave Manziel a chance. Down 20-3 to the Buffalo Bills in fourth quarter of Week 13, the Browns sent Manziel in. He provided an immediate spark, leading an 80-play touchdown drive capped with a rushing touchdown – and a money celebration. However, the Bills defence then shut him down. After Hoyer struggled again the next week, the Browns handed the reins to Manziel. He was shut out by the Bengals defence in his first start and totalled just 93 combined yards, while throwing to interceptions. The Browns gave him another shot in Week 16 against the Panthers, where he threw for just 32 yards before suffering a season-ending hamstring injury. Its too early to call JFF a bust, but the first year of the Manziel experiment certainly did not go as planned. -- Odell Beckham Jr. Makes the Best Catch You’ll Probably Ever See By Ryan Horne There were plenty of sports questions in 2014 that we can debate until our faces turn blue. There’s one question that need not be debated, tough, as realistically there is only one contender for play of the year. New York Giants rookie wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. made a catch on Nov. 23 that could very well stand the test of time as the best ever. Giants quarterback Eli Manning threw a prayer to Beckham Jr. from the 43 yard line. Cowboys’ cornerback Brandon Carr committed at least one, maybe two, pass interference penalties on the LSU product. The Giants would have gotten the ball around the three-yard line anyway, but Beckham Jr. didn’t care. He leaped, stretched out his right arm like he was Mister Fantastic from the Fantastic Four and snagged the pigskin with three of his fingertips before bringing it down to his chest for the touchdown. Before you knew it Twitter blew up with praise from the sporting world including NBA superstar LeBron James saying it had to be the best ever. Sure it may have not been on the same stage as David Tyree’s helmet catch against the Patriots in Super Bowl XLII, but the pure out-of-this- world athletism displayed just can’t be matched. It’s the play of the year. -- Outspoken Sherman Boosts his Star Power By Mike Hetherington Richard Sherman made himself known as a top cornerback prior to this year, but in 2014 he took his star power to a whole new level. With under a minute to play in the NFC Championship game, the 49ers were marching and down just six points. Taking a no-huddle snap with 30 seconds to play from the Seahawks 18-yard line, 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick threw a pass to the right corner of the end zone for Michael Crabtree. Sherman extended and batted the pass in the air and into the hands of linebacker Malcolm Smith for the game-winning interception. Sherman then made himself the face of controversy, yelling into the microphone of a post-game interview while declaring himself the “best corner in the game” and calling Crabtreee “a sorry receiver.dddddddddddd Social media exploded with mixed reactions, with many referring to Sherman as a “thug,” to which the corner took great offence. Two weeks later, Sherman had another strong game as the Seahawks defence shut down the Denver Broncos offence in a Super Bowl rout. With a Super Bowl ring, Sherman’s celebrity rose to new levels, with Barrack Obama even doing his own spoof of Sherman’s rant. Sherman quieted down the ‘thug’ accusations after the season, but made sure he was very well known as one of the game’s best defensive backs, if not the best. -- Turn Down for Watt: J.J. Does it All By Ryan Horne J.J. Watt is a darn good football player. People already were aware of this going into the 2014 season, but it was on the basis of what he could do as the best defensive end in the game. Not what he could do as a receiver. The 25-year-old has caught three touchdown passes this season. Even though they’ve been short one or two yard receptions, it’s still impressive to see a big defensive lineman with sharp enough hands to come up with those grabs. Watt also has an 80-yard interception return for a touchdown in Week 4 against the Buffalo Bills and a 55-yard fumble recovery for a TD two weeks later against the Indianapolis Colts. He has 72 tackles, 17.5 sacks, three forced fumbled and one pick so far in 2014, putting him in contention for the Most Valuable Player Award. The last time a defensive player won the MVP was back in 1986 when linebacker Lawrence Taylor took the honours as a member of the New York Giants. It will be a stretch for him to win the award since the Texans are a non-playoff team, but Watt is quickly making a name for himself as a once-in-a-lifetime type player. -- DeMarco Murray Carries Cowboys Above 8-8 and into Playoffs By Mike Hetherington DeMarco Murray had never played every game in a season entering 2014, leaving with the injury-prone label. This season, however, he received more carries and picked up more yards on the ground than any other back in football - and did so by more than 300 yards (through Week 16). Murray reeled off eight straight games with over 100 yards rushing to start the season and 11 such games in the Cowboys first 15 contests. Yet, Murray’s health came into question once again after the 26-year-old broke a finger in his left hand in the Cowboys win over the Eagles with two weeks remaining on the season. However, Murray had surgery on a Monday and played just six days later against the Colts, albeit rushing for a season-low 58 yards. On the shoulders of Murray, the Cowboys won the NFC East and managed to avoid going 8-8 for a fourth consecutive season. The team also finished above .500 for the first time under head coach Jason Garett. On a contract year, Murray could not have picked a better time to become the NFL’s premier running back. -- Michael Sam Makes History By Ryan Horne Michael Sam became the first openly gay player to be drafted by a pro football team in 2014. Sam, an outside linebacker who played his college ball at Missouri, came out earlier in the year and some thought teams would be afraid to draft the Southeastern Conference defensive player of the year because of the possible distractions. Not the case. The St. Louis Rams sure made people wait, but eventually selected Sam with the 249th pick in the seventh and final round of the draft. There were 256 picks in total. A live camera crew captured Sam’s reaction from San Diego where he was celebrating with his boyfriend, friends and family. The Rams cut Sam at the conclusion of the pre-season. He was added to the Dallas Cowboys’ practice roster soon after, but was waived a month later and didn’t see any game action during the season. It’s possible the 24-year-old will never see a NFL football field during a regular season game in his career, but is a pioneer for gay athletes in professional sports and could inspire others to have the courage to come out. As for 2015, don’t be surprised to see Sam racking up sacks for a CFL team, as it seems like a natural fit. 9-5 record and the FCS

SALT LAKE CITY -- For the first time this season, basketball was fun for Gordon Hayward and the Utah Jazz. "Once you see that ball go in, the hoop gets wider and guys are feeding off the energy. It started to become really fun," Hayward said. Hayward had 27 points and 10 assists and Richard Jefferson added 22 points to help the Utah Jazz claim their first victory of the season, a 111-105 win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday night. "Its definitely fun when guys are making shots and youre whipping the ball around from side to side. And we were getting some stops too," said Hayward, who scored 22 points in the second half to help the Jazz erase a 16-point deficit to put an end to their worst start in 39 years. "Its about time!" Hayward said. Derrick Favours made a key layup with 24 seconds remaining and Jefferson added three free throws in the final minute to clinch the victory. When Marvin Williams hit a 3-pointer to make it 104-100, Jazz fans leapt to their feet and the Utah reserves bounced around and high-fived like college players in a post-season tournament. "We finally got that monkey off our back," said Favours, who had 12 points and 12 rebounds. "We knew sooner or later the chemistry would show and people were going to hit shots they normally make." Enes Kanter had 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Jazz, who overcame their worst start to a season since 1974-75, their first year as an expansion franchise in New Orleans. Anthony Davis had 29 points and 15 rebounds for the Pelicans, who dropped all three games on their Western road swing. Tyreke Evans, an off-season trade acquisition who has struggled to find his role in the New Orleans scheme, had a season-high 19 points, with almost all of them coming on drives to the basket. Jrue Holiday added 19 points for a Pelicans team that was in control for most the game. "We had the momentum the whole game," Davis said. "We got to make sure they have no life in them, but we let up and let them back in." Jason Smith made a layup just after halftime to give New Orleans a 61-45 lead. As the most experienced player on the team, Jefferson took a strong stand in the ensuing timeout huddle. "There is no more Lets get it next time. This is unacceptable! This is our time right now," he told his teammates, according to Hayward. Jefferson became the focal point of a dormant Utah offence in the third quarter and scored nine points in a 13-2 run. "He led us tonight. We followed his lead. Hes been through it all over the years," Hayward said. The last time Jefferson scored 22 points was more than three years ago as a member of the San Antonio Spurs. But the young Jazz relied on the 12-year veteran, as well as the contributions of fellow "old-timer" Williams, who had 12 points and a key block on Holiday in the final minute. "The young guys will eventually be great, but this team needs veterans. We need to take over in spots," Jefferson said. The Pelicans built the lead back to 10 before Hayward tied the game at 70 with his second 3-pointer during a burst of 10 straight points for the Jazz. Diante Garrett was set to play for Iowa of the D-League but arrived in Salt Lake City on Tuesday and ended up playing 22 minutes for the Jazz, who need a point guard while they await the debut of lottery pick Trey Burke. Burke is a few weeks from playing while recovering from a fractured finger. The Jazz released Jamaal Tinsley and benched John Lucas III after an 0-for-7 shooting start in the game. "I was shopping at Wal-Mart two nights ago when I got the call," said Garrett, who had seven points and five assists and was running the point in crunch time. "I havent even had a practice yet but the coach was just drawing up plays on the white board in timeouts for me." His sense of relief at getting through his first game in Utah was only exceeded by his teammates getting their first taste of victory. "Its been tough to sleep at night as a member of the only NBA team without a win. I hate losing and maybe Ill finally sleep well tonight," Hayward said. NOTES: Two of the worst-shooting teams in the league combined to make more than half their attempts, with the Jazz shooting 51.4 per cent. ... Even with the salary cap being set lower than many general managers expected and hoped for at $69 million and whats considered a shallow pool of top-end players available, this unrestricted-free-agent period figures to follow the familiar script of teams bidding up prices to keep up with each other. VANCOUVER - It took a while, and some trick plays, but Mike Reilly finally earned a win against his former CFL team Saturday. Reilly completed three touchdown passes as the Edmonton Eskimos came back to beat the B.C. Lions 27-20 in the first game of the CFL season for both teams. The last time the Eskimos won in Vancouver, on July 21, 2012, Reilly was still a Lions backup. The Lions suffered only their third loss at B.C. Place Stadium since it received a new retractable roof in 2011. "Its a fresh start, its a new season, and this is a tough place to win in," said Reilly after beginning his second season with the Eskimos following a January 2013 trade from B.C. "Records aside, or whos playing in the black and orange, theyve made this place loud, and theyve done well since theyve come back from Empire (Field, the Lions temporary home during renovations). "I know that first-hand. Its something that we havent done in a long time, to win in Vancouver. Thats a good feeling." Reilly completed 22 of 35 passes for 229 yards as the Eskimos overcame an early 14-0 deficit. It was only his fifth win as Edmontons starter. He helped new coach Chris Jones earn a win in his first CFL game as a head coach after making defensive co-ordinator stints with three other clubs. Calvin McCarty, Fred Stamps and Adarius Bowman caught Reillys touchdown passes. McCarty also enabled the Eskimos to complete a fake field goal in the third quarter, leading to the touchdown that put them ahead to stay. The Eskimos also pulled off a successful onside kick early in the fourth quarter that kept their offence on the field longer. Grant Shaw provided their other points in the form of three converts and a pair of field goals. "Everybody chipped in," said Reilly. "Special teams got us a few extra possessions. Defence got the ball a lot, created a lot of turnovers, and offensively we were able to get some points. So (it was an) all-around team effort, but we know weve got to get better to reach our goal." The Eskimos are looking to become a championship contender by reversing a 4-14 season in 2013 that was their worst in 50 years. The Lions are looking to make amends for a first-round playoff loss to Saskatchewan. Lions quarterback Kevin Glenn got off to a strong start in his regular-season debut, completing two touchdown passes in the first quarter. But Glenn, who is replacing injured starter Travis Lulay (shoulder), was undone by four interceptions. "I didnt play a good game," said Glenn. "We turned the ball over, I turned the ball over, and thats something we cant do and expect to win." Glenn completed 10 of 13 passes in the first half, but finished a modest 18 for 28 passing for 251 yards. Andrew Harris and D-Tre Player scored touchdowns for B.C., while Paul McCallum added two field goals. "We just didnt keep the momentum going," said Glenn. "We turned the ball over in the second half." The Lions first TD, a 55-yard pass-and-run play, came 1:58 into the game. Shortly after catching a pass near the Edmonton 40-yard line, Harris easily shook off rookie linebacker Dexter McCoils tackle attempt, eluded a couple of other Eskimos and ran the ball along the sidelines into the end zone. It was only Glenns third pass of the regular season. Player, a rookie offensive lineman playing his first-ever CFL regular-season game, scored B.C.s second touchdown while playing out of position late in the first quarter. After lining up as a tight end and being left wide open, he caught a two-yard pass from Glenn. But thanks to Shaws two field goals in the second quarter, the Eskimos only trailed 17-14 at half-time. In the third quarter, Aaron Grymes intercepted Glenns pass intended for Shawn Gore deep in the end zone and then McCoils pick-off sparked the decisive drive that was aided by the successful fake field-goal. In crouch position, holder Matt Nichols, Edmontons backup quarterback, flipped a three-yard pass to McCarty, who helped the Eskimos convert a short-yardage situation. The trickery led to Reillys 17-yard pass to a wide-open Stamps in the corner of the B.C. end zone that, combined with Shaws convert on the final play of the third quarter, gave the Eskimos their first lead of the game, 20-17, and put them ahead to stay with 15 minutes remaining. McCarty, who grew up in nearby New Westminster, B.C., could not remember the last time he completed a fake field goal. "I dont think Ive run one since Ive been here," said McCarty, who is in the eighth year with the Eskimos. After Stamps touchdown, Pat Watkins recovered Edmontons onside kick. The Eskimos did not score on the ensuring offensive sequence. But on their next drive, Bowman hauled in a 35-yard touchdown pass. Edmonton then ended B.C.s victory hopes with back-to-back sacks by Almondo Sewell, which forced a punt, and an interception and forced fumble, both by Eric Samuels, that snuffed the hosts late comeback hopes. "Its a big win for us and a good way to start the season," said McCarty. Jake Muzzin scored an early goal for the Kings, who ended their three-game skid with another sturdy defensive effort at home. Los Angeles improved to 6-1 in post-season elimination games over the last two seasons while beating Ducks goalie John Gibson for the first time in his six-game NHL career. Kyle Palmieri scored and Gibson stopped 21 shots for the top-seeded Ducks, who missed the chance to clinch their first trip to the Western Conference finals since 2007. Game 7 is Friday night at Honda Center. The Southern California rivals scintillating first post-season meeting is the NHLs only second-round series still going. The winner faces the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks, who will have at least four days off before the conference finals open. The Kings again proved their post-season credentials are unassailable after winning a Stanley Cup title in 2012 and returning to the conference finals last year. Responding to Anaheims three straight wins with calm, intelligent defence, Los Angeles forced its second seven-game series of this post-season after rallying from an 0-3 deficit in the first round to stun San Jose. Four days after Gibson made his NHL playoff debut at Staples Center by shutting out the Kings to even the series, the 20-year-old goalie had a rougher time in his third game in the Ducks net. Lewis scored on an eminently stoppable shot, the puck trickling between Gibsons pads in the second period. Quick finally outplayed his young rival, and the Kings forced Game 7 despite getting just one goal from Jeff Carter and none from Anze Kopitar, Drew Doughty, Dustin Brown, Justin Williams, Slava Voynov or Jarret Stoll in the series.dddddddddddd The Kings came out for their fifth elimination game of the spring with the same fire they possessed in their first four, setting the pace and outhitting the Ducks early. Los Angeles took the lead midway through the first period when Kopitar slid a pass through the slot to Muzzin, who hit a mostly open net for the defencemans third goal of the post-season, his first in 11 games. Kopitar got his seventh assist of the post-season and extended his overall NHL playoff scoring lead, while Marian Gaborik scored his 13th point in 11 games with the other assist. Gaborik nearly scored his sixth goal of the series later in the period, but the puck hopped over his stick after Gibson ventured far from his net and banked a clearing attempt off teammate Ryan Getzlafs leg. Lewis doubled the Kings lead with an innocent-looking wrist shot that sneaked between Gibsons legs for his first bad goal of the post-season. Lewis, a grinding forward, scored just six times in the entire regular season. The Ducks scored 1:38 later. Nick Bonino jumped on Tanner Pearsons turnover and got it to Palmieri, who wrapped it around Quicks net for his first playoff goal since Anaheims first-round opener. Anaheim had two power plays in the third period, but the unit that scored five goals in the previous four games couldnt connect.
